Meet Jamie De Leon, Our New Intern!

We could not be more thrilled to have the opportunity to work with your first Champlain College intern, Jamie De Leon, in the coming semester!

Jamie hails from Los Angeles and is a senior studying Business Administration and Entrepreneurship. She'll be joining us to work on marketing and social media strategy and execution, photo styling, gift design and project management. She has an ultimate goal of one day owning her own business in the event and party planning industry....she tells us that she's been a lifelong party planner, from the time she started decorating for her family members' birthday parties as a child!

We took a few minutes to catch up and learn a few interesting tidbits about her as we embark on our new journey together. Welcome aboard, Jamie!

Name three words that describe you.

Creative, driven, adaptable

What do you think are the best skills that you bring to the internship?

  1. I like to keep things organized and on track.

  2. I’m a great team player and love collaborative work environments. I’m always open to others’ ideas and perspectives!

  3. I’m fully committed in everything I do, even if it may challenge me!

What’s a goal you have for yourself that you want to accomplish in the next year?

I want to expand my professional network and connect with more business owners in the wedding and special events industry.

Flash back to when you were 10 years old. What do you want to be when you grow up?

I’m pretty sure I wanted to be a nurse!

Tell us three of your pet peeves.

  1. Internet Ads

  2. When something is on the tip of your tongue, but you forget it

  3. When people misspell “you’re!" (Ed. note: We are SO with you on this one!)

Who is someone you admire, and why?

I would have to say David Kelley. He’s the founder of IDEO, a global design and innovation company that’s responsible for the concept of “design thinking” and “creative confidence”. I am so intrigued by Kelley’s human-centered approach to design and utilizing human behavior to inspire innovative products. It would be a dream if I could attend his classes at Stanford’s d.school!

What are your favorite things to read?

Cookbooks or food blogs. I’m constantly on the lookout for new dishes to recreate at home. Flipping through pages of tasty food makes me hungry but gives me inspiration!

If you could be anywhere other than here, right this minute, where would you be?

Grabbing boba (called “bubble tea” on the east coast) with my sister at our favorite spot back home called Bon-Bon Tea House.

What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?

If I’m not doing homework, you’ll probably find me at the gym. I absolutely love weightlifting and the idea of challenging my body to greater heights. It’s become my escape and my most efficient stress reliever.

Finish this sentence: On Sunday mornings, you can usually find me...

Watching YouTube in bed!

What would be your personal motto?

Treat yo’ self!

Tell us something most people wouldn't know about you! :-)

For the past few years, I’ve worked closely with my boyfriend’s CBD company. In the early weeks of June, you’ll find a small team of people (including myself) preparing a 2-acre family owned farm for the upcoming season. I’ve been responsible for different tasks including planting and maintenance of crops, and packaging and distribution of products. I also had the opportunity to name the company!
